We left Greenhead Landing under fair skies and light winds. We paddled a few miles, stopping several times to watch birds, to eat and just to enjoy the scenery. We saw many nesting blue herons and several sandhill cranes, but few pelicans this trip. Midway, the wind really kicked up to approximately 25 mph causing some problems, especially for the canoes. This was the most wind I have experienced in several Horicon Marsh trips. While it was tiring, it was not dangerous. We paddled for about 3.5 hours and traveled 7.6 miles. Many of the group stayed together and had supper in Watertown on the way home.
