Moon Light Paddle on Pierce Lake PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeff Reuter

Have you ever wanted to try kayak at night under a full moon in Pierce Lake?  Here is your chance to try it.  We will start at 7:00 PM at main boat ramp at Pierce Lake weather permitting.  Pierce Lake is in Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park, IL.  We will then paddle around the lake until 8:30PM. You must have a good flash light so that you can be seen also it would be a good idea to have bug spray and warm clothing.  We will have to be out of the park by 10:00 PM.  I try to do this paddle every month on a Friday just before a full moon.  Check the Stateline Calenders for dates and posible changes.

The Rock River Trip 09-11-2010 PDF Print E-mail

The Rock River trip will be on September 11, 2010.  This part of the Rock River does not have much motor boat traffic so it is a good part to paddle.  I will say that this is for moderate paddlers because water current.  This section of the Rock river will run is from MackTown Forest Preserve to Atwood Forest Preserve.  The trip will be all down river.  Bring a lunch or snack as we will be stopping about half way down.  I will go over a few pointers about paddling on a river just before we put in for the first timers on this river. The paddle will take about 3 hours max. with a 30 minute stop in the middle some were.  The total trip will be around 10 miles with weather permitting of course.  On the map below we will put in by the star by number 3.  The take out will be at the star by number 2.

We will meet at Mack Town Forest Preserve at 9:00 AM.  A small boat ramp sign at Mack Town Forest Preserve points down a lane to the river just pass the visitors building.  We will then take off all of the boats from our vehicles.  Then we will move all of our vehicles to the take out and one vehicle will have to move all of the drivers back to the put in.  This is what we call the car shift.  I would like to be done with the car shift and on the water by around 10:00 AM.  After we paddle down the river to the take out someone will have to go back and get the vehicle that moved the drivers back.  At the same time everyone else loads their boats.  For more information keep watching this WEB page.
